The King and the Seed by Eric Maddern
The Old King is worried that he had no heir. He sent a message to his kingdom "Whoever wants to be king after me come to the palace." The knights and nobles came dressed in armour and riding horses. A farmer's son Jack came over to witness the event. The king gave everybody a seed and asked everybody to grow the plant and be back in 6 months. Everybody came back with beautiful plants except Jack. Jack tried hard but the seed did not sprout. He told the truth to the king. The king appreciated him for telling the truth and explained that he boiled the seeds before distributing so none of the seeds would have sprout. Jack was selected as the king heir.

Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater
Mr. Popper of Stillwater was a house painter. He lived a normal, happy life with his wife Mrs. Popper and two children. Mr. Popper longed to have more adventure in his life. But most of all he wanted to be an explorer of the North and South Poles. His hero was an explorer of the Poles and was named Admiral Drake. Mr. Popper loved penguins and once had written a letter to Admiral Drake about how funny they looked and acted. One morning he had a strange surprise when a big box with small holes in it, arrived to his house. He opened it and there was a penguin inside! He named it Captain Cook. He made a home for it in the refrigerator. Then Captain Cook fell ill. Mr. Popper realized it was lonely and brought a new penguin, Greta for him. They moved them to the cellar and the penguins had children. However, the Poppers had money problems. Then, Mr. Popper decided to train the penguins and show them at theaters for money. When the owner of the Royal Theater, Mr. Greenbaum showed up in town, Mr. Popper made a deal with him for $5,000 per week. It went well for a while. Then one day, Mr. Popper was supposed to arrive at the Royal Theater. By accident, he told the taxi driver to take him to the Regal Theater. His penguins made a mess with the seals on the stage, so the manager of the theater got mad. This made the police arrest Mr. Popper and his penguins. Mr. Popper knew Mr. Greenbaum would help him, but Mr. Popper couldn’t reach him. One day, Mr. Popper was told he was free because Admiral Drake had saved him. When Admiral Drake arrived, he arrived with a man named Mr. Klein. Admiral Drake told him he wanted his penguins to perform experiments with them in the North Pole. However Mr. Klein wanted them to make movies in Hollywood and Mr. Popper would get a river of money flowing his way if he chose the deal. Mr. Popper thought about it for a long time. He decided to give the penguins to Admiral Drake because the penguins would be going somewhere happy for them. In the end, Mr. Popper even got to go to the North Pole with Admiral Drake.
Characters that followed good values in the story are:
1. Mr. Popper - Sympathy, he did what was best for the penguins instead of doing something that would have made him extremely rich.
2. Admiral Drake - Making Mr. Popper happy by gifting him a penguin and helping Mr. Popper by freeing him from jail when he was in need.

Great Characters from Epic Mahabharata
Mahabharata is a Hindu Epic. It is mainly a story about the Pandavas and Kauravas. The Pandavas are good and Kauravas are evil. The Kauravas were jealous of Pandavas and made them come to a game of dice. The Pandavas lost in the game, they were forced to leave the kingdom and go to exile for 13 years and then, in the 13th year they should disguise themselves. During 13th year, they hid in the kingdom of Virata. Yudhishthira, the oldest brother of Pandavas, the righteous was a priest. Bhima the strong was a cook. Arjuna, the skilled was a dance teacher and Nakula and Sahadeva took care of horses and cows. They passed their exile succesfully and they started the 18 day war to get back their kingdom.
Hindus believe Krishna is God and he supported the Pandavas. The Pandavas were also supported by Dhrupada, Virata, Pallava and Chola kingdoms. The Kauravas had Bheeshma and Drona who were 2 mighty warriors on their side. The Pandavas won the war and got back their Kingdom.
Here are some interesting characters from Mahabharata:
1. Bheeshma: Bheeshma is self- sacrifice because he sacrificed his kingship for his father's happiness.
2. Karna: He was loyal by never leaving Duryodhana for his help. He was generous and he did lot of charity like he gave away his invincible armour and earrings when the God of Thunder(Indra) asked him.
3. Yudhishthira: He was always righteous even when he was challenged with extreme difficult situations in his life. An example is during his period of exile by certain circumstances his 4 brothers were dead.He was provided an option by a GOD to bring one of his brothers to life. He thought about his family(father Pandu and his 2 mothers Kunti and Madhri), since he was alive and he was Kunti's son he picked Nakula who was Madhri's first son so that he would make both his mothers happy. Even at such difficult situation he did not consider about his own benefit of picking his own strongest or skilled bothers Bheema or Arjuna. GOD appreciated his righteous thought and gave back the life of all his 4 brothers.
4. Arjuna: He was devoted to Lord Krishna. When Lord Krishna asked Arjuna and Duryodhana who wanted him and who wanted his army, Arjuna chose Krishna because of his faith and devotion towards him. Arjuna was also courageous. His faith, devotion and courage helped him to fight Bheeshma, Drona and Karna the mighty warriors of the Kaurava army and he was successful.
Moral of Mahabharata :
Always support the good. The reason is the Almighty supports the Good.
